How To Make Cardboard Baskets?

Cardboard is an extraordinary material. Its features are beyond one’s imagination. Although the main use of cardboard boxes is in the packaging sector it can also be used in various other ways. With a little creativity, the custom-printed boxes can be converted to different household items like storage organizers, wall hangings, home décor, and kids toys. Cardboard baskets are one of them. Sometimes you get short of baskets to arrange your stuff even if you purchase them often. Cardboard boxes are the best for making them. No need nothing to purchase from the market. Just make them with the supplies available with you. If you search on the Internet you will find a number of ways to make baskets from cardboard. The easiest way is to take a large cardboard box and cut off its lid. Cover it with some colorful fabric, and your basket is ready. Another interesting idea is to weave your square cardboard basket. Although this method requires some effort results are outstanding. Some are the steps to make cardboard baskets:

 Materials Required:

  • Cardboard
  • Paper cutter
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Tape
  • A clean surface

Step 1: Gather the cardboard

The first step of the process is to take large size custom cardboard boxes. You can also take custom printed boxes for this purpose. Cut out their tape ends and make the boxes flat. Obtain a number of cardboard sheets according to the size of the basket you want to make. The size of each sheet should be at least five inches in length.

Step 2: Making the Strips

Now make a mark at each quarter-inch on the sheets gathered from custom cardboard boxes using a pencil. You can also convert its sides if you want to keep the basket simple. Cut out approximately 20 long strips using the markings as the guide.  Now take five strips and put them parallel to each other. The total length from the first to the fifth strip should be approximately three inches. Place the tape on the sides of the strip.

Step 3: Weave the Base

For weaving the base of the basket, first put a dot on the center of the third strip. Take another set of five strips and weave them through first five strips. The dot will help you to arrange the structure evenly as shown in the image.

Step 4: Folding the Strips

Now remove the tape from both ends applied to the first five strips. Fold up the strips from all four sides. The ribs will be now called ribs.

Step 5: Weave the Layers

Take one strip and put its one end behind the rib. Start weaving it over and under all the ribs. This makes it go around the basket’s base. Once you get to the end of the first layer, stick it to the last rib. The first layer is always hard to make but facilitates the entire process. Now repeat the process for the second layer. Started it from the other side from where you started first. Continue weaving the remaining strips in the same way.

Step 6: Fold and Cut the Ribs

Once you have finished weaving the strips, cut the ribs so that an inch is there at the top of every strip. Fold all the ribs which go over the last layer. Tuck them under the third-last layer. You may cut off the ribs which go under the last layer for neatness. Finally, you are done! You can color it with paints and decorate it with ribbon, beads, and other embellishments to give it an attractive look. It’s a great way to make baskets and organize your stuff using the custom boxes available. More another idea to make cardboard baskets visit the following link:
